Finland’s oldest city is making a clear state¬ment in urban development. The current devel¬opment on the famous Kakolanmäki hill is cre¬ating new apartments, a hotel, restaurants and bars. Last year, the new city district and former prison hill was given a transport connection to the surrounding area by a new inclined elevator by LEITNER ropeways. The “Turku” inclined elevator proved the ideal solution for the terrain. The system is just 132 meters long and can transport 480 passengers per hour, spanning a vertical distance of 30 meters. As inclined elevators use the same fundamental technology as vertical elevators, short, straight routes like those on Kakolanmäki are the per¬fect application for them.
